Best way to practice golf in your own backyard?

I was wondering what are some good ways to practice golf in your own backyard preferably without spending tons of money on it, please. I don’t have that big of a back yard, and I also live in a decently busy neighborhood, so I also don’t want to hit a car or a home nearby. Basically, what are some very safe and fun ways to practice golf in my own backyard? I would like ideas that include clubs such as woods, irons, wedges, and putter. If you could list some websites that have the right products that I could purchase to use for this then please do so…

Thanks for all the great help
Also who is a great Tiger Woods Fan?

You could hit balls into a net, but that doesn’t give feedback on your ball flight. You could work on your ball striking though. I like hitting wiffle golf balls for fun, but the feeling is really different from real balls.

in my backyard, my family installed a putting green in there so we can practice putting. there are companys that install putting greens in back yards. putting is really important, and it is good to practice

    Hello TWF

Besides hitting into a net and putting down some astroturf for putting that only leaves chipping.

Chipping is on of the most important aspects of the game and is probably the least practiced. I would say to put a basket in the yard at different distances each day, day 1 put it about 15 yards away. Dont stop hitting balls untill you get in say 3 in a row , then day 2 put the basket about 20 to 25 yards away and repeat.

For putting practice you can always go to the local course and putt around on the practice green .

Hit some plastic golf balls . Over time your swing will really improve because you don’t try to hit them so hard and will groove a really good swing . Because you can apply it to real balls as well. Otherwise just keep chipping real balls as well which will improve your short game around the greens . Good Luck Mate .

If you are looking to cure your slice or hook, you need to fix your swing to where you are connecting with the ball squarely. You can do this basically for free and you have all the tools you need in your bag. Take six tees and place three on each side if a driver, 1 out front, 1 in the middle, 1 behind about three inches apart. It should look like your swinging through a railroad track. The trick is to swing through the path and not hit any tees. If you hit the back outside tee, your swing path is out to in, which will cause a slice. Practice for ten to fifteen minutes a day swinging slowly at first and work up to your normal tempo. You will see that you will start swinging the club straight through the ball and reduce your slice and hook and will lead to longer straighter drives.

You probably can’t practice woods or irons on your backyard.
concentrate on your sand wedge. If you have 40 yards in your backyard, place a garbage can lid at one end( plastic preferred) , and practice hitting those 40 yard shots. With a sand wedge, you should swing your club until your hands are just below 9 oclock. Swing to a full finish. If the ball travels more than 40 yards, then swing your arms to a slightly lower position,(hands about 8 oclock). The 40 yard wedge shot is one of the toughest distances to master. If you can master this one, you can hit shots just longer or shorter than this with your sand wedge by varying the length of your backswing. Just remember, swing to a full finish.

It was once suggested by my golf instructor to get a full length mirror and practice my set up/address with it. This would help you with all clubs and may help with alignment as well. you could also but foam practice balls to practice chipping and pitching as well. hope this helps…

Make sure that you are a renter… permanent neighbors can get upset real easy… especially if something goes wrong.

You could get the Rope-it Backyard Driving Range. it’s a golf ball attached to a bungee rope. It’s only 20 bucks and it actually works very well. i bought one and i like it. It’s probably one of the better ways practice in your backyard. and again its cheap
